Anne Tiernan has spent the past fifteen years at the cutting edge of research, postgraduate and professional education in public policy, public administration and public sector governance. She is a gifted teacher with a track record of educational and program leadership and of inspiring and motivating participants to high performance and professional standards.
Anne’s exceptional oral and written communication and presentational skills are demonstrated in her publications, which include six books, articles in national and international journals and invitations to deliver keynote lectures and public addresses. She has a strong media profile across broadcast, print and online platforms and is an experienced public speaker, moderator, facilitator and emcee.
Professor Tiernan’s deep content knowledge and professional expertise are well recognised. She has consulted to and worked with ministers, senior officials and practitioners at all levels of Australian government. Through her work, she has built relationships of confidence and trust with political, bureaucratic and civic leaders on all sides of politics. From 2008 to 2012, she served on the Board of Commissioners of the Queensland Public Service Commission and from 2012 to 2016 she was appointed as a member of Queensland’s Public Records Review Committee. The Institute for Public Administration Australia awarded Anne a National Fellowship in 2010 in recognition of her ‘outstanding contribution to the study and practice of public administration’.
Anne has more than a decade of experience in policy and management roles in the Commonwealth and Queensland public sectors in agencies including the Commonwealth Departments of Finance and Primary Industries and Energy and the Queensland Department of Housing, Local Government and Planning and the Residential Tenancies Authority. She is a strategic thinker whose combination of skills and experience enables her successfully to bridge the divide that often exists between academics and practitioners. She has well developed national and international research and professional networks and recognised skills as a relationship manager. She has demonstrated capacity to work in teams, to grow new agendas and to cultivate and develop talent.
