I’m looking forward to the PC’s public hearings into the efficacy of current natural disaster funding arrangements in Brisbane tomorrow. My colleague Adjunct Professor Jim McGowan, AM and I are scheduled to address Commissioners at 9.15am. We will be elaborating on and answering questions about points made in our initial submission to the Inquiry and our subsequent submission on the Commission’s draft report.
This important inquiry has significant implications for state and territory governments, particularly Queensland, which has a high risk profile for natural disasters.
As we note in our submission, the Commission has done a thorough and thoughtful job in its draft report. We welcome the opportunity to discuss its findings and recommendations which have the potential to address the current imbalance in the proportion of funding available for mitigation and prevention and that devoted to natural disaster relief and recovery.
